There was a loud noise in the kitchen and the cats were acting very strange, so we knew something was in the house. Once we got our brooms and turned the lights on, the intruder must have been scared off. We still didn't know what it was... just something dark, so I carefully went over and closed the cat door. (Our second story deck has a cat door, so our cats can go outside to the deck, but can't get loose.) I turned the deck light on and guess who? We had no idea it could get to our deck. Two nights later I heard it on the roof and sure enough he started scratching on the cat door. This time I was able to get a picture. I guess the boat isn't good enough for the raccoon anymore, it has to come inside the house! I couldn't even believe it! Last summer, it invaded the boat and ripped up the side panel. It didn't cause much damage in the house, just made a little mess.

Children's Memorial

My grandparents, Oma and Opa, placed a nameplate for my dad at this Children's Memorial in South Lake Tahoe. Thanks to Kathy Pickering who found this beautiful site on her daily walk. The following statement is written on the stone in front of the log.

"This memorial represents an ancient phrase of loss, 'the death of the children before their parents,' 'Arts' vision gives a physical acknowledgement of such an untimely taking by exposing the elusive spirituality of life. The tree in its raw and vulnerable form represents the eternal spirit of children to their parents, to life itself. The influence of such a loss never leaves. No matter how hard we try to hold on, these tender spirits ultimately gain their freedom by breaking earthy ties - represented by the stressed and broken steel fasteners. The rocks express the power and support of the earth, transcending such tragic events by simply continuing as rocks have done from the very beginning of time - as we must. "Dreaming of Giverny" Monet's Garden. Usually the theme is just tomatoes, but this year the jury also accepted "Garden Inspired Art." Both of my pieces were selected for the show on September 9 at the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center Sept. 8-10, 10-5PM.

Work in progress... I shot this in Holland, while driving. I haven't done much to this photo yet except play up the color. It just looks like a dream, so I have this vision of adding some very transparent water, waves or dolphins to make it a surrealist piece.

For the first time, Lance Armstrong made an appearance at the Tahoe Celebrity Golf Tournament. I was so excited and quickly realized I wasn't the only one. He was mobbed like Michael Jordan. I watched him play for a couple of holes and took photos for this montage. I also got my picture taken with Lance... well that's what I was hoping for! A photographer from the Reno Gazette came up to me after and said he took a picture of me, taking a picture of Lance. :)

I was hoping he shot it from a different angle, so Lance would be in it :) But that's me... all decked out in yellow. RGJ.com photo
